With companies throwing money at AI like there’s no tomorrow, having some way to track it seems like a good idea.
In this nullEDGE session, Ian Cahall shows that you can do it with the same approach as cloud spend, using Cloud Cost Management in ServiceNow.
Tracking Gemini spend
He does it with an example of tracking Gemini spend by connecting to the Google Cloud Platform in some simple steps:
- Integrate CCM with GCP using a guided setup.
- Configure the Google billing account and API credentials.
- Schedule billing data downloads and price sheet imports.
- Tag AI resources to categorise spend dynamically.
- Use spend analytics to visualise who’s using what, when, and how much it costs.
I don’t have experience with this (I just pay a fixed monthly fee for GitHub Copilot to help me autocomplete some code), so I’ll pass along Ian’s advice:
Get AI spend data straight from the source, establish visibility early and treat AI as an asset.
